Hal writes comics and zines in addition to novels. These are mostly more ephemeral, casual pieces of work. They’re mostly jokes.
Hal’s longform comic is Vivian’s Ghost, which is about a trans man haunted by the ghost of his dead friend from high school, an anti-trans journalist, and a detransitioned tradwife. It won a Cartoonist Studio Prize for Best Webcomic in 2023.
